NEMA intervens as Water sources Wells in Northern Uganda send panic waves of drying up

As a follow up on a restoration order seeking to have  Cuda Wetlands re generate, National Environment Management Authority is warning that improper use of wetlands may dry up water sources across the country there by affecting vulnerabilities Communities that depend on natural water sources.

This came as NEMA implemented an enforcement order for  a nursery bed operators who had encroachmed on Cuda wetland in the Northern dustrict of Nwoya.

Water sources in areas around Patuda parish are also drying up due to irresponsible human activity around wetlands.

Following a thorough engagement between the NEMA board and the local leadership at Patuda village nursery bed operations are advised  to move the nursery beds further from the wetlands.

NEMAs Executive Director Dr Barirega Akankwasah says  failure to comply within the shortest time will result into enforcement actions that may be destructive, leading to losses.

The board of NEMA has been on site visits in Northern Uganda aiming at strengthening compliance, collaboration and improving familiarisation on environmental matters.
