Equity Bank in collaboration with My Tree Initiative  extended it’s tree planting by planting 1500 trees at kyansaku Hill college school in Mpigi district.
This is an extension to the continued ESG(Environment Social and Governance) drive of the Bank.
Area Member of Parliament Amelia Kyambade was the chief planter and Guest of Honour. Equity Bank Uganda was represented by Virginia Ssemakula Manager Energy, Environment and Climate Change, along with other Bank officials.
Kyambade commended the school for ensuring that they maintain environment and commended them for their participation in the struggle of rampant deforestation. “So many trees have gone to charcoal sellers but when schools show such projects to children and make them part of the fight, the future will be saved.”
Area Member of Parliament Amelia Kyambade together with Virginia Ssemakula Manager Energy, Environment and Climate Change, along with other Bank officials.
A total of 1500 trees have been planted on two acres of land which were offered by the School for this project.
The Bank projects to plant 35 million trees by 2030. Last year, the same initiative was done in Busoga College Mwiri, Nyakasura School and St Julian Schools.
Ssemakula, noted this is in line with the Green financing of the Bank. And also aims at restoring green cover.
Leonard Ssennyonjo Head Teacher of Kyansaku Hill College, noted that, “Each student that plants a tree names it after themselves and is tasked with caring for it when the time comes to leave the school another student will take it on. This will ensure continuity of the project.”
