Government is calling upon local manufacturer’s,traders and small scale producers to embrace the use of proper packaging materials in order to attract more clients and increase sales of their goods and services.
this was disclosed by the Minister of Trade and cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa as he presided over the opening ceremony of the master class training on packaging technology.
Uganda’s industrial sector has remarkably expanded especially in the manufacturing sector from just 80 industries in 1986, to more than 9,000 industries, contributing significantly to the country’s economy.
currently in Uganda 50% of food is wasted due to bad storage and packaging practices.
How ever the minister says proper packaging will lead to a longer shelf life for food improve on quality and open more opportunities to trade.
The three day training has attracted key players in the packaging sector with the aim of exchanging kmowledge about proper packaging practices in order to increase revenue and avoid food waster.
