H.E. President GEN. Yoweri Kaguta, has arrived at Police Headquarters Naguru. He will address officers attending the 28th Police Council meeting, which is a significant event on the Uganda Police Force’s calendar.

The Police Council is a crucial organ within the Uganda Police Force, comprising 85 members, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Directors, and representatives from various ranks.

As the top policy-making body, the Police Council is responsible for overseeing key aspects of police operations, including:
– *Recruitment and Training*: Ensuring the force has the necessary personnel and skills to perform its duties.
– *Appointment and Promotions*: Managing the career progression of police officers.
– *Discipline*: Maintaining order and discipline within the force.
– *Terms and Conditions of Service*: Ensuring fair treatment and working conditions for police personnel.
– *Equipment and Supplies*: Overseeing the provision of necessary resources and equipment.
– *Policies*: Developing and implementing policies to guide police operations.
– *Structure*: Ensuring the force’s organizational structure is effective and efficient.
– *National Character and Composition*: Promoting a force that reflects the diversity and needs of the Ugandan people.

The Police Council’s work is guided by the Police Act, Cap 324, and its meetings provide a platform for strategic discussions and decision-making.

Today’s meeting, attended by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, marks an important occasion for the police force, as it seeks to address contemporary policing challenges and strengthen its capabilities to ensure a safe and secure community.
