Poverty, unemployment ,poor health were on top of citizen voices at the Launch of Sauti za Wananchi Insights.
The insights explore Ugandan citizens’ opinions on national priorities and challenges, as well as their perspectives on taxation.
According to Marie Nanyanzi , a senior programme officer at Twaweza –Sauti Za wana inchi , Ugandan citizens are concerned about serious problems both for the country as a whole and for their own households.
unemployment and health services currently stand at at 39%.
This is followed by the cost of living/inflation (33%).
At the household level, the most serious problems reported are hunger/drought (40%), unemployment (39%), and health services (34%).”
Previously, economic concerns were dominant, but this has fallen since 2023
In 2023, citizens pointed largely to economic concerns- unemployment and the cost of living in particular – as the most serious problems facing the country.
Corruption has consistently ranked biggest in areas of concern.
Violet Alinda the country lead,Twaweza East Africa in Uganda says the report can be used by decision maker’s and leaders to address concerns raised by citizens.
