Rotarians have been commended for selflessly participating in community projects that have contributed to improving the livelihoods of Ugandans.
This was disclosed by Rhona Kamukama the president,Rotary club of Lubowa during the special Induction Fellowship for new members and recognition of our Honorary members of the club.
These include District Governor Anne Nkutu District 9213, District Leaders and Past District Leaders,
Members of the Rotary Club of Lubowa, Rotarians & Rotaractors from Districts 9213 & 9214, Guests and friends of Rotary Club of Lubowa.
The event that was graced by Past District governors in D9214, current and Past assistant governors, and Rotarians from both districts was also attended by the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda Augustus Nuwagaba, MD Centenary Bank, Fabian Kasi, PDG Edward Kakembo.
Rhona Kamukama says the club continues to grow and thrive, with a membership of 70, consisting of 57% females and 43% males. (40:30). Our focus is shifting towards community-based recruitment, with a goal of chartering a Community Club to extend our impact.
“We take pride in being an All-TRF Giving Club, recently recognized among the Top 10 giving
clubs in District 9214 at the half-year assessment. Additionally, we are an All-EREY Giving
Club and received an award for Polio Giving at the same assessment. Our commitment to The
Rotary Foundation has resulted in 25 new Paul Harris Fellows (PHFs) this year” she said.
At the youth directorate, – Team Inspire has been instrumental in chartering two new Interact
Clubs while maintaining our two Rotaract Clubs and an existing Interact Club.
On the PR front, she says they are actively engaging with the public through media platforms like the website, X, Facebook, and Instagram.
Main Impact Through Service
The Rotarians have successfully applied and got approval for four Global Grants this year, including a
Scholarship grant of USD $36,636, a WASH Project of USD $ 36,406, an MCH Project of USD
$ 45,300 and a Malaria Community Impact Grant of USD $10,884, Global Grant utilization for
2024/25 standing at USD $ 129,226.
Non-global grant utilization for completed community projects stands at Ugx. Shs. 188,498,000/-
, including a 3-classroom block at St. Kizito – Suuka Primary School in Kasanje which was
commissioned in September 2024, alongside 21 other impactful projects this rotary year.
Ongoing Projects
Bunapongo Maternity Ward (Non-Global Grant): The Club has so far spent about
56million shillings and plans to roof the building are underway. Centenary Bank
generously contributing UGX 10M towards the roofing, Pride Micro-Finance contributed
a water tank and cash and a member contributed a theatre bed.
Bunapongo Multi-Club MCH Global Grant worth USD $45,300: Approved. This Grant
will equip a maternity ward in Bunapongo HC 111, to impact on about 16,000 people in
84 villages in Mbale District.
Suam WASH Global Grant (Kapchorwa) worth USD $36,406 was approved. This project
will provide gravity water to 4,800 people across five villages and is expected commence
this Rotary year.
