Locals in Rubanda task the leadership to deliver the most wanted services

Residents of Kashasha town council in the western district of Rubanda are appealing to the leadership to priorise concerns raised that are negatively impacting on their livelihoods especially the poor Road network and distant health services.

This was disclosed in Rubanda district during the public validation screenings of the PAR (Participatory Action Research) Stories.

The powerful, localized films capture and celebrate the tireless efforts and successes of community members and change agents within their own districts.

According to Judith Nakaima,a program officer at Twaweza Uganda, the screenings are designed to reinforce a simple but profound message aiming to amplify impact of local voices to inspire further action on service delivery across the districts.

PAR model implemented by Twaweza since 2020 equips communities with the knowledge, skills, and tools to build their confidence to exercise individual and collective agency. The intervention requires communities to identify community challenges, prioritize them, establish the underlying causes of the problems, and collectively agree on action leading to solutions that address these problems.

As a result of these efforts, communities in 5 districts of Uganda have registered some success.

These include fixing disfunctional water sources, broken roads and the construction and renovation of classroom blocks and dispensaries.

For some communities, public servants (teachers and nurses) were posted or transferred in response to community concerns, and drugs were available in the health centers.
