Government purchases motorcycles for District Commercial Officers.

The programme is meant to enhance the delivery of commercial services .

In a bid to improve commercial services delivery at the grassroots, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives has procured 141 motorcycles for District Commercial Officers (DCOs) across the country.
The equipment will ease mobility of commercial officers at Districts visit communities in a bid to mobilize communities to be involved in commercial activities and also participate in Government activities like parish development model.
The Budget strategy for the FY 2024/25 emphasized the Effective Implementation of the Parish Development Model, whose effective implementation required that frontline service providers, which include the Local Government/City commercial officers, are adequately facilitated to support implementation of the PDM, Emyooga among other programmes.
In this regard, Government, through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, procured strong Motorcycles for Commercial officers across the country.
In 2012, the District Commercial Services Support project was established to enhance the delivery of commercial services through capacity building and retooling of local government offices.

According to Gume Fredrick  the  Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (Cooperatives) the motorcycles being  distributed to districts would use 7% of the districts funding  for maintenance of Motorcycles (spares, tyres, servicing).
The Minister advised commercial officers against drink driving and using the facilities for personal use but to collect Data on PDM, Emyooga, and other Government interventions to enable Government assess the impact and make improvements where necessary .
