The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, delivered his Easter Message for 2025 under the theme “Jesus’ Resurrection, Our Hope for Eternity,” based on 1 Corinthians 15:12–58 and Matthew 28:1–15.
In his message, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the need for environmental stewardship and commended the Dioceses that actively participated in the recently concluded Environment Month.
The Archbishop expressed deep concern about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has resulted in an influx of refugees into Uganda. He called for urgent support, particularly for women and children, in the form of food, shelter, hygiene kits, and medical supplies.
Archbishop Kaziimba condemned the growing levels of corruption in both public and private sectors, describing it as a moral crisis that must be confronted with repentance and action.
He also highlighted significant milestones within the Church, notably the launch of the Church of Uganda Strategic Planning Framework 2026–2030, which is set to guide Diocesan and institutional planning across the Province.
The Archbishop commended Save the Mothers for two decades of service in improving maternal and child health in Uganda. He used the opportunity to advocate for increased investment in the health sector, including the expedited implementation of a National Health Insurance Scheme.
Reaffirming the role of Church-founded health facilities, he emphasized the importance of strong leadership and sustainable management. He encouraged all clergy and members of the Church of Uganda to enroll in the Provincial KIDO Health Insurance Scheme.
Raising alarm over the growing threat of drug and substance abuse among young people, Archbishop Kaziimba called for a united response by the Church, families, and communities to restore moral values and support rehabilitation efforts.
He concluded by extending Easter greetings to H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the First Lady Hon. Janet Museveni, government leaders, and all Ugandans.
He also congratulated the Rt. Rev. Gaster Nsereko, newly consecrated Bishop of West Buganda Diocese, and Rev. Canon Joshua Kugonza, Bishop-elect of Masindi Kitara Diocese.
