In a bid to prevent and respond to climate led disasters, Government of Uganda has launched the national multi-hazard integrated Early warning system and Anticipatory Action Roadmap to prevent and respond to climate led disasters .
The plan is intended to strengthen disaster preparedness by promoting timely action before disasters occur through a compressive disaster mitigation plan and responses.
Sam Engora the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees notes that plan is timely needed to guide on preparedness interventions in disaster prone areas across the country.
The Uganda Anticipatory Action Roadmap (2025–2031), a landmark national framework will strengthen disaster preparedness by promoting timely action before disasters occur.
The launch marks the culmination of a three-day Technical Training on the Operationalisation of Multi-Hazard Integrated Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) to Enhance Preparedness, Early Action and Coordinated Response, which commenced on 29 June 2026.
The training brought together government institutions, technical experts and development and humanitarian partners to strengthen national capacities in translating early warning information into timely anticipatory action.
The Roadmap launch and the technical training underscore Uganda’s commitment to shifting from reactive disaster response to proactive risk management, ensuring that early warning information leads to coordinated action that protects lives, livelihoods and development gains.
The launch comprised senior government officials, development and humanitarian partners, academia, civil society, the private sector, local governments, the media and community representatives.
