NEMA Speaks out on Land use Zoning,Kampala now a mixed use city not a residential area.

NEMA Recommends that Factories like Mukwano industries and others should shift to industrial parks.

In a bid to fight different types of pollution in the country, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is recommending that Ugandans should start having meaning full conversations on land zoning in the country.

This will help with separation of different activities like factories for production, medical facilities, Hotels, sports avenues, churches and bars.

According to the executive director NEMA Dr Barirega Akankwasah, due to lack of land zoning in the country especially in the capital city, investments in Mixed-use apartments have taken shape.

These combine residential living with commercial, retail, or office spaces within the same building or complex.

Dr Akakwasah urgues that by placing shops, cafes, and services on the ground floor and apartments above, they create highly walkable, self-sustaining livelihood. He however says the initiative of mixed use comes with various types of pollution that affect citizens in different ways.

For kampala,Dr Akankwasah says kampala city is already a mixed use city and can only be saved by shifting some facilities like factories from the center to industrial parks.
