National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the agency responsible for protecting Uganda’s environment, has announced that soon offenders with environment related cases will be prosecuted in an independent environment court.is going to have an independent court to prosecute environment cases.
this will reduce on the work load of many environment cases that are pending in other courts.
this has been disclosed by NEMA at an engagement with donors earlier on Thursday.
The announcement by NEMAS Executive director Dr Barirega Akankwasa now emphasizes the earlier warning that restoration activities are to resume in a bid to restore degraded areas across the country.
According to Dr Barirega Akankwasa operations are to be conducted in regions where there have been hostile environmental violations.
in today’s meeting with donors at Sheraton Kampala Hotel the Meeting Objectives comprised of :
1. Ensuring that development partners are aware of Uganda’s most pressing environmental challenges and climate change barriers to sustainable development.
2. Exploring a framework for sustainable engagement and information sharing with development partners.
In the last 30 years,National Environment Management Authority has piloted and implemented several projects to ensure sustainable use of Environment resources such as the kidepo critical landscape ,the Mt Elgon project among others.
