The Government has announced that it is going to construct 69 soil laboratories in selected districts across the country to enhance research on soil quality and fertility.
This comes amidst concerns of poor yields due to poor soil infertility which has led to calls of increased utilization of fertilizers with hope of leading to improved soil fertility.
The revelation was made at the just concluded engagement of the Ministry of Agriculture,partners and scientists discussing the domesticating of soil fertilizers and soil health action plan,that was held at sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
According to Fredrick Bwino Kyakulaga a Microbiologist and State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries govt will establish the labs with collaboration with district extension workers who are entrusted with the responsibility of sensitizing farmers on best farming practices that could lead to better yields.
