The Minister of State for Industry Hon. David Bahati has aplauded the Government of Uganda for the monthly initiative that aims to protect the environment while fostering patriotism and national unity.
Speaking after the exercise, Bahati said the initiative today united Ugandans beyond tribe, party, faith, or social class.
He commended Uganda Baati for maintaining high production standards and a culture of workplace cleanliness, saying industries contribute 27.4% of Uganda’s GDP and about 35% of domestic revenue.
He urged manufacturers to expand while safeguarding the environment and announced that every last Saturday of the month will be dedicated to nationwide cleaning.
The minister also encouraged Uganda Baati to accelerate plans to use Uganda’s iron ore for local steel and iron sheet production, pledging government support. “We are looking forward to giving you all the support that you need to make sure that your dream is realized,” he said.
Uganda Baati Managing Director George Arodi welcomed the initiative, saying environmental stewardship is already embedded in the company’s culture, including efforts to reduce single-use plastics.
He called for stronger enforcement of anti-littering laws to ensure the monthly cleanup campaign translates into lasting cleanliness across the country
