The concept of agri-food systems lies at the heart of addressing today’s global and national challenges, this includes hunger, malnutrition, climate change, rural poverty, and environmental degradation.
They encompass all actors, institutions, and processes involved in producing, processing, distributing, and consuming food, making them central to livelihoods, economic growth, public health, and sustainability.

For Uganda and many other countries, strengthening agri-food systems is critical to achieving food security, healthier diets, and resilient communities.
Good governance is key to ensuring these systems are inclusive, transparent, and accountable, while aligning national policies with global commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Food Systems Transformation agenda.
