In a bid to fulfill the presidential commitment towards promoting industrialization, job creation and having a self-sustained economy, the Government of Uganda has outlined a number of priority concerns that are affecting full scale production of goods and services in the country.

Through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, routine monitoring visits and check ups are being conducted to local industries to ensure that manufacturers don’t get disruptions.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Industry David Bahati as he conducted routine visits to several factories manufacturing various products for local consumption and for export in Namanve and Seeta.

Minister Bahati visited Avado Industries Ltd, processors of Avocado from fruit to crude oil, RHP packaging Ltd, local manufacturers of packaging materials, and Regal Paints (U) Ltd

Currently, RHP packaging Ltd employs 120 Ugandans with annual tax contribution to the nation at a tune of six billion shillings in income tax while contributing 140 million shillings in PAYE. RHP Packaging Ltd produces packaging and branding materials for local manufacturers.

Avado Industries that started in 2021 employs 300 Ugandans with a total investment of three million dollars and paying a hefty amount in income tax and PAYE. The factory is concerned that ugandans are exporting row avocados to other countries and denying local factories the much needed raw materials

The Minister also visited Regal Paints (U) Ltd that employs over 300 people and paying 2.5 billion shillings in taxes.

The factories are playing an important role in import substitution, thereby saving the nation from losing foreign exchange.

In his observation, Minister David Bahati noted concerns raised by manufacturers of inadequate electricity and fluctuations that have raised costs of production.

He says routine visits are part of President Yoweri Museveni’s ten point programme of building an independent, integrated, and self-sustaining economy.

The industrialists have appealed to the government to facilitate them with more land so as to enable them to expand their production lines.
